How are ACCs linked to the community?ACCs are key regional stakeholders strategically positioned to build community capacity and to find local solutions to local problems. The Chair and every member of an ACC are committed volunteers drawn from the community, local business and local government. Membership is voluntary and unpaid. Each committee works in partnership with the Australian Government and their communities for growth at the local level through building business, creating jobs and fostering sustainable economic development. The Minister of the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport. Regional Development and Local Government appoints the Chairs to ACCs from leading members of the community. The role of the ACC Chair is to provide leadership to the community in the area of regional development. The ACC Charter can be found at http://www.acc.gov.au/docs/charter_ministerial.aspx How is your ACC involved in community development?ACCs build an understanding of the local community and its needs, by searching out the unique strategic advantages in the region that generate growth and development. They then work to foster this growth and development by bringing together business investment, Government support and local initiative. An example, of ACCs working together for the benefit of their local communities and with Government support was their involvement in the Water Reform Project. A copy of the Report is available here ACCs are also involved with the development of project proposals submitted under various regional programmes.
